How it works

The operating system holds the door. Fokyo decides when.

Fokyo does not ask apps to behave. It uses the blocking tools your phone already ships with, and then makes them hard to argue with.

Enforcement

What actually stops the app.

iPhone

Fokyo uses Apple’s Screen Time APIs. You pick apps, categories and websites in Apple’s own picker, and iOS puts a shield over them during a goal’s hours. The shield is drawn by the system, not by a Fokyo window you could swipe away. You grant Screen Time access once, in the app.

Android

Fokyo runs a guard service that watches which app is in front and covers a blocked one with a full-screen block. It needs two permissions you grant in the app: usage access, and display over other apps. It does not use an accessibility service.

Neither is magic. Anyone with the phone’s settings and enough determination can take a blocker apart, which is why the layers below exist — each one removes an easy way out.

Three layers

Each one closes an exit.

You choose how far up to go. Most goals never need more than the first two.

1 · The block screen

Open a blocked app and you get the fox instead. Close it and walk away, or open Fokyo and ride the urge out. Getting past it is never one tap.

2 · The unblock door

The only way past a block. You type a sentence for your goal, sign again and confirm after ten seconds. The app opens for 15 minutes, then locks again — and your streak starts over.

3 · Hard Mode

On iPhone, Fokyo sets the Screen Time passcode and keeps it. Your goals and Screen Time settings stay locked, with no unblock door, until a cooling-off timer runs out. Nobody can shorten it.

Privacy

What stays on the device.

Stays on your phone

Which apps you use and for how long. On iPhone the apps you pick are opaque tokens even to Fokyo — Apple does not tell us their names, so we could not list them if we wanted to.

Kept on our servers

Your account, your goals and their hours, your streak and what reset it, your plan, and — if you use it — your Hard Mode record. The Hard Mode passcode is stored encrypted.
