Grant Screen Time access

Fokyo cannot block anything until the operating system lets it. How to give access on iPhone and Android, and what to check when blocks do not appear.

iPhone

  1. 1Open Fokyo. Onboarding asks for Screen Time access; so does creating your first goal.
  2. 2iOS shows its own prompt asking whether Fokyo may access Screen Time. Tap Continue and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode.
  3. 3Pick the apps, categories or websites for your goal in Apple’s picker.

Screen Time itself has to be on: Settings › Screen Time. If you declined the prompt earlier, open that same screen and look for Fokyo in the list of apps with Screen Time access — the exact wording differs between iOS versions — or simply try again from inside Fokyo.

On iPhone the apps you pick reach Fokyo as opaque tokens. Apple does not tell us their names, and your usage never leaves the phone.

Android

Fokyo needs two permissions, and takes you to each settings screen:

  • Usage access — so the guard can tell which app is in front.
  • Display over other apps — so it can cover a blocked app with the block screen.

Some phones stop background services aggressively. If blocks stop appearing after a while, exclude Fokyo from battery optimisation in your phone’s settings.

Blocks still do not show up

  • Check that the goal is running right now: its hours and days. A 24/7 goal always is.
  • On iPhone, make sure Screen Time was not switched off in Settings after you granted access.
  • Restart the phone once. Both systems occasionally need it after a permission change.

Taking the access away again — or deleting and reinstalling Fokyo — resets your streak.
